Why should I start now?

When considering your future living options, think about the size of your home now compared to what you realistically need. The sooner you can begin the downsizing process, the sooner you can discover the many surprising benefits you may not have considered before retirement. Even if you’re not quite ready to move, downsizing early can help you better plan for you options for the future.

What are the benefits?

Downsizing your home makes it more accessible for you as you age. Also, making a move and downsizing your space can provide you with a community, social environment, and relieves the maintenance burdens of managing your home.

Where do I begin?

Focus on starting sooner rather than later and pace yourself. While going from room to room in your current home, consider the new space you will have and top items you will need. Set your own decluttering rules to avoid creating a “maybe” or “decide later” pile.

Who do I ask for help?

Reach out to family and friends who are around you. Asking for help may be difficult for you, but the easier you can make the downsizing process, the less stress you will experience. We have the right resource for you to get started. Download our guide to decluttering to learn some best practices.

Life In a CCRC

What is a CCRC?

A Continuing Care Retirement Community, also referred to as a Life Plan Community, offers a variety of lifestyle options and a continuum of care including independent living homes, assisted living apartments, rehabilitation and therapy services, skilled nursing, and long-term care.

How do CCRC’s compare?

The emphasis of the CCRC model is to enable residents to avoid moving if their needs change, with the exception of moving to another level of living within the community.

What are the benefits of a CCRC?

The main reason older adults choose a CCRC is for the peace of mind that comes with a continuum of care. Most seniors move while they are independent and active to take advantage of the amenities and services available for as long as possible. Gone are the days of upkeep and maintenance of a home which gives you more time to do the things you want to do.

What should I ask while touring a CCRC?

Be sure to ask about the variety of floorplans and the features of the unit you are interested in as well as the community itself. Find out what opportunities are available to engage with other residents and socialize. Discover what dining options are available and for which meals. Don’t forget to meet other residents and staff members while on your tour.
