5 Assisted Living Facts to Know Before You Make Your Move

If you or your spouse is considering an assisted living community, there are a few things you should know first. Be sure to check your assisted living facts before making your move to a community.

Assisted Living Facts You Should Know

Residents Set Their Own Schedules

Contrary to popular belief, assisted living communities do not dictate your daily activities. It is a common fear of older adults looking to find care later in life that moving to an assisted living community means losing independence.

In reality, residents make their own schedules and move about campus freely as they please. Additionally, they can participate in as many or as few campus activities as they like. There are no rigid schedules to follow, only what residents choose to do with their time.

Private Accommodations are Standard

Privacy is important for all ages, however many seniors worry that moving to an assisted living community means sacrificing their privacy. While you will have many opportunities to enjoy the companionship and community that campus life has to offer, every resident has their own private living space.

There are Lots of Daily Activities

Another myth about assisted living is that all there is to do all day is play rummy or bingo. While those are options in most communities, there is so much more to do. From musical events to art classes, most communities have a designated event planner who is responsible for planning fun, interactive events.

What the Monthly Fees Include

Depending on your CCRC contract type, the monthly fee will typically include a wide variety of services, benefits, and amenities. Some common features include:

  • Utilities
  • Cable
  • Housekeeping
  • Activities
  • Wellness programs
  • Private accommodations

Some communities also include meal plans and transportation, though you will want to ask to be sure.

At Wesley Glen, Pets are Welcome

Many assisted living communities recognize that your pet is a member of your family too. That’s why we offer a pet-friendly community for you to include your four-legged friends. Be sure to ask if the community has a size or breed restriction.
