Lifestyle Myths of Senior Living Communities

Blog Category: Lifestyle

A myth about senior living communities is that your whole life will change. In truth, you’ll continue to maintain your independent lifestyle and gain even more freedom from living maintenance-free.

6 Things You Can Continue or Explore After Your Move

1. Host Your Family

Myth: I won’t have the space or extra rooms for family visits or gatherings.

Reality: If you’ve always hosted your granddaughter’s birthday party, you can still do that! There are plenty of spaces on our campuses to use for gathering purposes, like our main dining room, which residents can reserve at no cost.

2. Live in a Neighborhood

Myth: When I move, I won’t actually be living in a neighborhood, and it will be hard to make friends.

Reality: Whether you’re living in an apartment or villa, you’ll be living in a true neighborhood community and have opportunities to make friends and get involved in the events happening on campus.

Our senior living communities are walkable and have common spaces for you to enjoy, such as clubhouses, fitness and wellness centers, shops, and dining options.

3. Travel

Myth: I won’t be allowed to leave or travel anymore after I move in.

Reality: Traveling while living in one of our senior living communities will be easier than ever. We can provide you with a round-trip chauffeur to the airport, offer to keep an eye on your home, and even have it cleaned while you’re away. Explore the world as much as you like throughout the year without worry!

4. Have Pets

Myth: I can’t take my dear cat with me, and I don’t know that I could ever part with him.

Reality: Your pet is more than welcome in our senior living communities! Independent residents can have up to two pets for no additional cost. For dog owners, we have plenty of indoor and outdoor space to walk your dog.

5. Socialize and Make Friends

Myth: I won’t know anyone there, and I’ll be limited in how I meet people.

Reality: You can make friends at any stage of life! Though transitioning somewhere new is always an anxious change, it doesn’t have to be scary, and you’re not alone. Our Events and Programs associates always have a variety of activities planned that meet the needs and interests of all our residents. So even if you’re introverted or don’t know where to start with meeting people, we have something frequently arranged to participate in.

6. Be Independent

Myth: Moving into a Continuing Care Retirement Community means losing my independence and going along with whatever they plan for me.

Reality: Even though you’re moving into a community of like-minded people who may require different levels of assistance, our team recognizes and supports your independence and individuality. In fact, we encourage all our residents to be as independent as they can and want to be, no matter what stage of life they’re in. Whether you live entirely on your own or require assistance, we’re a supportive team there for you. Because we don’t plan for you, we plan with you.
