In the age of social distancing and digital meet-ups, Zoom is one of the most popular platforms to socialize virtually. It could be a call with a family member, book club, or even a volunteer group. Zoom calls allow you to stay in tune with the things that are important to you. So, what is a Zoom call?

What is Zoom

Zoom is a web-based software program used to set up online meetings. You can use Zoom on a desktop, laptop, tablet, or phone as long as you have a camera. Zoom uses your camera to show a live video feed of whoever attends your meeting. It uses your microphone to allow you to speak to other meeting participants. If you don’t have a desktop, laptop, or tablet, you can use your phone to call without the use of a video display. 

How to Download Zoom

Zoom is a free video chat option and can be downloaded easily. If you received an invitation to a Zoom meeting via email, simply click the link that says “Join Zoom Meeting.” If you’ve never used Zoom before, this link will take you to the Zoom website. Here you can download the Zoom program or app. 

Downloading Zoom for iPhone or iPad

Go to the Apple Store and search “Zoom Cloud Meetings.” Click “Get” to download.

Downloading Zoom for Android Phone or Tablet

Go to Google Play App Store and search “Zoom Cloud Meetings.” Click install.

Downloading Zoom on a Computer

Go to zoom.us/download and click “Download” in the “Zoom Client for Meeting” section. 

After you download the app, you must then install it. 

Installing Zoom on an Apple Computer

Double click the Zoom file which should be located in your Downloads folder. After that, simply follow the steps to install.

Installing Zoom on a PC

Double-click the file called ZoomInstaller.exe file and follow the instructions to install.

Joining a Zoom Call

After installing Zoom, there are a few ways you can join a Zoom Meeting. You can choose to click the link in your invitation email, go to the Zoom website and enter the meeting ID, or dial into the meeting on your phone.

Leaving a Zoom Call

To end the Zoom call, simply click “Leave Meeting” in the bottom right corner and the app should close.
