Where do I begin?

You’ve already begun by being here. Through understanding your loved one’s needs and educating yourself on support services they could benefit from, you’re headed in the right direction.

What are the benefits of senior living?

Engaging opportunities led by experienced staff, assistance with daily living, and peace of mind for the unexpected are just a few of the benefits of life in a continuing care retirement community.

What are my loved one’s options?

From assisted living that offers a helping hand to memory support and skilled nursing that provide around-the-clock care, there are a variety of living options to fit your loved one’s needs.

Who do I ask for help?

Asking for help is never easy but leaning on those around you is important. Talk to your family members and have them help you do your research. Including someone with expertise in senior living will also be beneficial, especially with family dynamics. When you’re ready, our team is available to answer your questions and explore an individualized plan for your family.

A Conversation That Benefits Everyone

How do I talk to my loved one about senior living?

Focus the conversation on why you think it’s a good option for them and the benefits it offers. Also, make sure their thoughts are heard and they know their input is valued. This conversation should be and can be a positive one.

When should I talk to them?

The sooner the better. If you’ve been thinking about how senior living could benefit your loved one, it’s time to open the lines of communication with them. By starting the conversation now, you’ll both be prepared well before a crisis situation where emotions are heightened.

How do I discuss the benefits?

Highlight the benefits that will most interest your loved one. Do they wish they had more opportunities to pursue their hobbies? Maybe they’d feel more at ease with someone overseeing their medications. Find out what each community has to offer and promote those aspects when talking with them.

What if the conversation doesn’t go well?

Talking to a loved one who is apprehensive about transitioning to senior living is challenging. Remember, their feelings and opinions matter most. If the conversation takes a negative turn, stop and reflect. Try and see what aspects of the conversation went wrong and revisit at a later date. Speaking to a senior living professional for advice can also help for next time.

What should we look for?

Touring senior living communities is the best way to envision a life within one. You’ll want to see a variety of accommodations to discover which best fits your loved one’s preferences and budget. Make sure to chat with associates, especially those who provide care and engaging opportunities, and make sure to see the areas where activities take place. It’s also a good idea to mingle with the residents. After all, they’ll be neighbors!

How do we choose a home?

Focus on the aspects of a living space that matter most to you and your loved one. Characteristics such as walk-in showers, safety grab bars, and space for easily moving about are some examples of important key features.

What is the moving process like?

At Life Enriching Communities, our dedicated teams will support your loved one’s move to make the process as smooth as possible. Whether it’s a list of resource partners to help as you prepare for the moving day, or our internal associates guiding you upon your arrival, we’ll be with you every step of the way.

Who will help my loved one with the transition?

Our move-in coordinators and resident services teams will ensure your loved one’s transition to one of our communities is a pleasant experience. They’ll be available to your family for questions and advice throughout the moving process.

Planning and Paying for All-Inclusive Care

How much does care cost?

Cost of care varies depending on services needed. Our team will work alongside your family to create an individualized care plan to ensure you’ll only pay for the services you need.

How do I compare cost to in-home care?

The average hourly cost of in-home care in Ohio is $20/hour and increases based on your loved one’s needs. This rate does not offer the benefits a senior living community does which we’ve outlined below. Additionally, Life Enriching Communities benevolent care ensures your loved one need not leave due to a health-changing event or depletion of personal finances.

Who can I talk to for help?

Our sales associates are happy to speak with you and your family at any point during your exploration to discuss pricing in further detail. Oftentimes, we also speak directly with family financial advisors for additional support and guidance.

What steps should I take now?

Assess your loved one’s home and review their personal assets and financials. By doing this, you’ll have a clearer picture of what is most important in a potential new home and what is achievable financially when touring.
